Q&A

SCORPIO is a leading pneumatic tool manufacturer in Taiwan, known for delivering high-quality and innovative tools primarily used in the vehicle service industry. We offer a wide range of products, including air impact wrenches, air ratchet wrenches, air drills, air screwdrivers, air grinders, air sanders, air needle scalers, air riveters/rivet nut guns, air spray guns, torque wrenches, torque testers, and more, to meet the diverse needs of our customers.

In addition to our SCORPIO brand, we also supply tools to leading global brands. Our philosophy focuses on quality, service, and innovation, backed by ISO 9001: 2015 certification and CE-certified products.

Our Low Air Consumption Impact Wrenches use our patented double-air-intake motor with two air inlets instead of one, improving efficiency by over 25% compared to standard models. This design reduces the size of the tool by 35% and its weight by 20%, making it more efficient and easier to handle without sacrificing power.

Regular oiling is essential to maintain the performance and longevity of your pneumatic tools. The ideal frequency depends on how often you use the tool, but a general guideline is daily or weekly. Oiling removes contaminants that can accumulate during use and helps prevent rust.

For most pneumatic impact wrenches, you’ll primarily need to lubricate the motor and sometimes the impact mechanism. Here’s a simple procedure to lubricate the motor:

  1. Apply oil: Add 10-15 drops of mineral-based air tool oil (like SAE 10) to the air inlet.
  2. Run the wrench: Operate the impact wrench for a few seconds to distribute the oil throughout the motor.

If you use the impact wrench extensively without a lubricator, reapply the oil every few hours to maintain proper lubrication.

  • Always read the instruction manual before use.
  • Wear proper safety gear, including goggles, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Ensure the compressed air supplied is clean and dry. An in-line regulator, filter, and lubricator can help maintain optimal performance and tool life.
  • Maintain recommended air pressure at 90 psi (6.3 bar). Exceeding this can damage internal components and pose safety risks.
  • Keep tools clean, lubricated, and regularly maintained.
  • Use only accessories designed for the specific pneumatic tools.
  • Do not operate pneumatic tools, hoses, or air compressors that appear damaged or faulty.
  • Monitor trigger time limits for pneumatic tools with high vibration levels.
  • Disconnect the tool from the air source during maintenance or when cleaning jammed fasteners.
  • Lubricate tools before storing them for more than a week.

The new pin clutch hammer mechanism incorporates several innovative design elements to enhance performance and durability:

  • Protective Hammer Cam: The hammer cam is designed to shield the spring from potential damage caused by the hammer pins.
  • Shorter, Specialized Pins: Using shorter and specially designed hammer pins contributes to increased tool lifespan. These pins likely reduce wear and tear on the mechanism.
  • High-Endurance Spring: The spring is made from a special material that can withstand up to 1,000,000 cycles without significant degradation.

SCORPIO pneumatic tools/products come with a one-year limited warranty, in addition to consumer legal rights, covering defects from faulty materials or workmanship.

The warranty does not cover:

  1. Normal wear and tear
  2. Damage from improper handling, storage, misuse, neglect, or poor maintenance.
  3. Products disassembled, modified, or serviced by unauthorized personnel.

For warranty claims, detailed fault descriptions, along with pictures or videos, should be sent to Scorpio for investigation.

All SCORPIO pneumatic tools are proudly made in Taiwan.

Composite pneumatic tools are lighter and more cold-resistant than aluminum models, with equal durability. However, for users preferring aluminum tools, the composite models YU-12891T and YU-12898T can be customized. Check the catalog for more details.

Pneumatic tools use an air compressor and air hoses for power, while cordless power tools rely on batteries, offering greater mobility for use anywhere. Pneumatic tools are generally smaller, lighter, and more cost-effective, with a longer lifespan since they don’t require batteries. They also offer compatibility across manufacturers, as the connectors are standardized. In contrast, cordless tools often require matching battery platforms, limiting users to the same brand. Cordless tools have expanded into areas where pneumatic tools are not typically used, such as garden tools, cleaning tools, construction tools, appliances, etc.

  • Working Torque: The torque measured within 5 seconds
  • Max Torque: The torque measured within 15 seconds
  • Nut-Busting Torque (Breakaway Torque): The torque needed to break free of the nut within 20 seconds

The twin hammer mechanism features two hammers delivering one impact per rotation, offering better balance and reduced vibration compared to the single-hammer design of the jumbo hammer. While jumbo hammers produce more power at the same size, twin hammer mechanism are more durable, making them a preferred choice in impact wrench designs.

SCORPIO angle impact wrenches stand out with their patented flexible tilting heads, which can bend 60 degrees forward and backward, unlike traditional wrenches with fixed heads. This flexibility, combined with a patented 360-degree rotating handle, allows for easier operation in confined spaces, enabling the user to press the trigger button from any position.

In contrast to competitors that use air tubes in their flex-head designs - prone to deterioration and difficult to repair - SCORPIO’s tubeless mechanism is simpler and more reliable. Additionally, SCORPIO wrenches use a twin hammer mechanism for reduced vibration and longer tool life, while many competitors rely on jumbo hammers, which produce more vibration. Despite these features, SCORPIO maintains a short head length thanks to its patented double-air-intake motor. In addition to the standard 1/2” drive, SCORPIO flex-head impact wrenches are also available with 3/8” and 3/4” drive options, offering greater versatility for various applications.

SCORPIO offers two types of needle scalers: straight (inline) and pistol grip, each designed to maintain a natural wrist posture during use.

  • Straight Models: The YU-NS008 and YU-NS010 are mini and compact, making them ideal for tight corners. The YU-NS010, an upgraded version of the YU-NS008, features an adjustable needle cover for improved needle utilization.
  • Pistol Grip Model: The YU-NS009 pistol grip needle scaler features 115 mm (4.5”) long needles, compared to the 180 mm (7”) needles of traditional models. Its compact, lightweight design, low vibration, and patent-pending angled needles enhance comfort and effectiveness in removing rust, coatings, and contaminants. The ergonomic design allows for easier one-handed operation.

All new SCORPIO needle scalers use durable stainless steel needles, whereas most competitors use carbon steel.

To obtain an accurate torque value of a fastening tool, we recommend using a SCORPIO hydraulic torque tester. This method provides precise torque measurements similar to those obtained with a torque wrench.

Choose a hydraulic torque tester that matches the torque range and square drive of your fastening tool. For instance, the YU-SK25 covers a torque range from 0 to 2,400 ft-lbs (3,254 Nm) and features a 50 mm hex nut output with a 1” square drive. Optional adapting sockets are available for different square drive sizes.

Measurement Procedure:

  1. Connect the impact wrench to the hydraulic torque tester's socket.
  2. Operate the impact wrench for 5 seconds to measure the working torque and record the hydraulic pressure on the pressure gauge.
  3. Disconnect the impact wrench.
  4. Use a torque wrench to turn the hydraulic torque tester's socket until the pressure gauge reads the same hydraulic pressure as recorded with the impact wrench.
  5. The torque value displayed on the torque wrench is the working torque of the tested impact wrench.
